Privacy Statement

Pharmacists in Primary Care Network (PCN) Program Commitment to Privacy and Security

The Pharmacists in PCN Program (the Program) team is bound by professional standards and privacy legislation. The Program places a primary care clinical pharmacist (employed by your local health authority – either Vancouver Coastal, Fraser, Interior, Island or Northern Health) within your healthcare team. The Program is under the jurisdiction of the University of British Columbia (UBC) for the first three years.

The pharmacist works with other members of the healthcare team (including your community-pharmacy based pharmacist), answers your medication questions, prevents or avoids medication problems, and helps you to get the best possible treatment results.

The pharmacist will take notes to keep track of your care. This information is collected under the authority of section 26(c) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and will only be used to provide you with services under the Program. The information will be stored in a secure database located at UBC and kept confidential.

The information systems used in the Program have undergone privacy and security assessments and are used in accordance with explicit policies and procedures.

If you have any questions about the collection and storage of your information, please contact Barbara Gobis (contact information below).

Appointment by Video Call

Appointments that occur by video call (sometimes referred to as telehealth) are powered by Microsoft Teams. The Program team has taken appropriate measures to ensure your privacy and information security while using Microsoft Teams for a video call appointment. However, there are limitations to all technology systems, including Microsoft Teams. To help us keep your information private and secure, read our page on the Limitations of Virtual Care here. Additional information on Microsoft’s own privacy policy is available here.

E-mail (unsecure)

Whenever possible, we encourage patients to share personal information via secure e-mail (see below), fax or mail. If you choose to use regular e-mail (unsecure e-mail) to share personal information with us, be aware of the security limitations associated with this. To help us keep your information private and secure, read our page on the Limitations of Virtual Care here.

E-mail (secure)

The Program team encourages patients to share information via our secure e-mail system powered by MediNet. UBC has taken appropriate measures to ensure your privacy and information security while using MediNet. To help us keep your information private and secure, read our page on the Limitations of Virtual Care here. Additional information on MediNet’s own privacy policy is available here.
