Program Overview

The Pharmacists in PCN Program (the Program) is led by the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC), funded by the BC Ministry of Health and implemented in collaboration with regional health authorities, Divisions of Family Practice and other community stakeholders.

The main goal of the Program is for pharmacists to work directly with physicians, nurse practitioners and other health care providers in primary care team settings. The pharmacist contributes their drug therapy expertise to optimize the on-going care of patients with complex conditions. A secondary goal of the Program is to engage and connect pharmacists across care settings so their skills and experience can also be part of shared patient care.

UBC is leading the first 3 years of the Program, from October 2020 to September 2023. The first 20 PCCPs were hired in communities across the province in Year 1, and work is underway on up to 30 more hires for Year 2.
